What is 8 times greater than 4?

32 is greater than 8 x 4.

But that is not true. 32 is not greater than 8 x 4. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=8 and b=4 to get this answer:

(8 + 1) x 4 = 36

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 9 times 4?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
