What is 8 times greater than 3?

24 is greater than 8 x 3.

But that is not true. 24 is not greater than 8 x 3. It is the same!

(8 + 1) x 3 = 27

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 9 times 3?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
