What is 7 times greater than 8?

Let's assume the answer = 56 (since 7 x 8 = 56). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

56 is greater than 7 x 8.

But that is not true. 56 is not greater than 7 x 8. It is the same!

(7 + 1) x 8 = 64

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 8 times 8?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
