What is 6 times greater than 2?

6 times greater than 2 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 12 (since 6 x 2 = 12). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

12 is greater than 6 x 2.

But that is not true. 12 is not greater than 6 x 2. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=6 and b=2 to get this answer:

(6 + 1) x 2 = 14

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 7 times 2?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
