What is 4 times greater than 2?

4 times greater than 2 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 8 (since 4 x 2 = 8). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

8 is greater than 4 x 2.

But that is not true. 8 is not greater than 4 x 2. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=4 and b=2 to get this answer:

(4 + 1) x 2 = 10

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 5 times 2?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
