What is 30 times greater than 10?

Let's assume the answer = 300 (since 30 x 10 = 300). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

300 is greater than 30 x 10.

But that is not true. 300 is not greater than 30 x 10. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=30 and b=10 to get this answer:

(30 + 1) x 10 = 310

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 31 times 10?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
