What is 30 times greater than 11?
30 times greater than 11 seems easy enough, but is it?
Let's assume the answer = 330 (since 30 x 11 = 330). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:
330 is greater than 30 x 11.
But that is not true. 330 is not greater than 30 x 11. It is the same!
To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=30 and b=11 to get this answer:
(30 + 1) x 11 = 341
But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 31 times 11?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.
It seems that when many people write 30 times greater than 11, they mean 30 times as much as 11 which equals 330. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
