What is 3 times greater than 7?

3 times greater than 7 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 21 (since 3 x 7 = 21). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

21 is greater than 3 x 7.

But that is not true. 21 is not greater than 3 x 7. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=3 and b=7 to get this answer:

(3 + 1) x 7 = 28

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 4 times 7?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
