How many times can you subtract 4 from 1?

"How many times can you subtract 4 from 1?" is a tricky question. We think that there are three different answers to this question.

Answer 1: Once
It is once, because after you subtract 4 from 1 once, you are left with -3. Thus, you cannot subtract 4 again from 1.

Answer 2: 0.25 times
0.25 times, because 1 divided by 4 is 0.25. After you subtract 4, 0.25 times from 1, then there is nothing left to subtract from.

Answer 3: Infinite
There is nothing that says you can't keep subtracting 4 from 1 indefinitely. Just because you will end up with negative numbers doesn't mean you have to stop subtracting!
