What is 90 times greater than 9?

90 times greater than 9 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 810 (since 90 x 9 = 810). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

810 is greater than 90 x 9.

But that is not true. 810 is not greater than 90 x 9. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=90 and b=9 to get this answer:

(90 + 1) x 9 = 819

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 91 times 9?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 90 times greater than 9, they mean 90 times as much as 9 which equals 810. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
