What is 90 times greater than 85?
90 times greater than 85 seems easy enough, but is it?
Let's assume the answer = 7650 (since 90 x 85 = 7650). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:
7650 is greater than 90 x 85.
But that is not true. 7650 is not greater than 90 x 85. It is the same!
To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=90 and b=85 to get this answer:
(90 + 1) x 85 = 7735
But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 91 times 85?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.
It seems that when many people write 90 times greater than 85, they mean 90 times as much as 85 which equals 7650. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
