What is 81 times greater than 32?

81 times greater than 32 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 2592 (since 81 x 32 = 2592). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

2592 is greater than 81 x 32.

But that is not true. 2592 is not greater than 81 x 32. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=81 and b=32 to get this answer:

(81 + 1) x 32 = 2624

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 82 times 32?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 81 times greater than 32, they mean 81 times as much as 32 which equals 2592. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
