What is 80 times greater than 11?

80 times greater than 11 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 880 (since 80 x 11 = 880). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

880 is greater than 80 x 11.

But that is not true. 880 is not greater than 80 x 11. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=80 and b=11 to get this answer:

(80 + 1) x 11 = 891

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 81 times 11?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 80 times greater than 11, they mean 80 times as much as 11 which equals 880. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
