What is 64 times greater than 12?

64 times greater than 12 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 768 (since 64 x 12 = 768). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

768 is greater than 64 x 12.

But that is not true. 768 is not greater than 64 x 12. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=64 and b=12 to get this answer:

(64 + 1) x 12 = 780

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 65 times 12?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 64 times greater than 12, they mean 64 times as much as 12 which equals 768. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
