What is 50 times greater than 37?

50 times greater than 37 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 1850 (since 50 x 37 = 1850). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

1850 is greater than 50 x 37.

But that is not true. 1850 is not greater than 50 x 37. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=50 and b=37 to get this answer:

(50 + 1) x 37 = 1887

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 51 times 37?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 50 times greater than 37, they mean 50 times as much as 37 which equals 1850. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
