What is 50 times greater than 33?
50 times greater than 33 seems easy enough, but is it?
Let's assume the answer = 1650 (since 50 x 33 = 1650). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:
1650 is greater than 50 x 33.
But that is not true. 1650 is not greater than 50 x 33. It is the same!
To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=50 and b=33 to get this answer:
(50 + 1) x 33 = 1683
But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 51 times 33?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.
It seems that when many people write 50 times greater than 33, they mean 50 times as much as 33 which equals 1650. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
