What is 50 times greater than 12?

Let's assume the answer = 600 (since 50 x 12 = 600). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

600 is greater than 50 x 12.

But that is not true. 600 is not greater than 50 x 12. It is the same!

(50 + 1) x 12 = 612

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 51 times 12?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
