What is 5 times greater than 67?

5 times greater than 67 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 335 (since 5 x 67 = 335). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

335 is greater than 5 x 67.

But that is not true. 335 is not greater than 5 x 67. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=5 and b=67 to get this answer:

(5 + 1) x 67 = 402

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 6 times 67?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 5 times greater than 67, they mean 5 times as much as 67 which equals 335. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
