What is 46 times greater than 35?

46 times greater than 35 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 1610 (since 46 x 35 = 1610). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

1610 is greater than 46 x 35.

But that is not true. 1610 is not greater than 46 x 35. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=46 and b=35 to get this answer:

(46 + 1) x 35 = 1645

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 47 times 35?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 46 times greater than 35, they mean 46 times as much as 35 which equals 1610. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
