What is 40 times greater than 10?

40 times greater than 10 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 400 (since 40 x 10 = 400). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

400 is greater than 40 x 10.

But that is not true. 400 is not greater than 40 x 10. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=40 and b=10 to get this answer:

(40 + 1) x 10 = 410

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 41 times 10?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
