What is 38 times greater than 52?

38 times greater than 52 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 1976 (since 38 x 52 = 1976). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

1976 is greater than 38 x 52.

But that is not true. 1976 is not greater than 38 x 52. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=38 and b=52 to get this answer:

(38 + 1) x 52 = 2028

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 39 times 52?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 38 times greater than 52, they mean 38 times as much as 52 which equals 1976. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
