What is 37 times greater than 10?

37 times greater than 10 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 370 (since 37 x 10 = 370). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

370 is greater than 37 x 10.

But that is not true. 370 is not greater than 37 x 10. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=37 and b=10 to get this answer:

(37 + 1) x 10 = 380

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 38 times 10?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 37 times greater than 10, they mean 37 times as much as 10 which equals 370. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
