What is 32 times greater than 50?

32 times greater than 50 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 1600 (since 32 x 50 = 1600). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

1600 is greater than 32 x 50.

But that is not true. 1600 is not greater than 32 x 50. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=32 and b=50 to get this answer:

(32 + 1) x 50 = 1650

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 33 times 50?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 32 times greater than 50, they mean 32 times as much as 50 which equals 1600. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
