What is 28 times greater than 99?

28 times greater than 99 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 2772 (since 28 x 99 = 2772). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

2772 is greater than 28 x 99.

But that is not true. 2772 is not greater than 28 x 99. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=28 and b=99 to get this answer:

(28 + 1) x 99 = 2871

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 29 times 99?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 28 times greater than 99, they mean 28 times as much as 99 which equals 2772. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
