What is 25 times greater than 38?

25 times greater than 38 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 950 (since 25 x 38 = 950). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

950 is greater than 25 x 38.

But that is not true. 950 is not greater than 25 x 38. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=25 and b=38 to get this answer:

(25 + 1) x 38 = 988

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 26 times 38?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 25 times greater than 38, they mean 25 times as much as 38 which equals 950. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
