What is 25 times greater than 24?
25 times greater than 24 seems easy enough, but is it?
Let's assume the answer = 600 (since 25 x 24 = 600). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:
600 is greater than 25 x 24.
But that is not true. 600 is not greater than 25 x 24. It is the same!
To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=25 and b=24 to get this answer:
(25 + 1) x 24 = 624
But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 26 times 24?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.
It seems that when many people write 25 times greater than 24, they mean 25 times as much as 24 which equals 600. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
