What is 24 times greater than 26?

24 times greater than 26 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 624 (since 24 x 26 = 624). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

624 is greater than 24 x 26.

But that is not true. 624 is not greater than 24 x 26. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=24 and b=26 to get this answer:

(24 + 1) x 26 = 650

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 25 times 26?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 24 times greater than 26, they mean 24 times as much as 26 which equals 624. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
