What is 24 times greater than 21?

24 times greater than 21 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 504 (since 24 x 21 = 504). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

504 is greater than 24 x 21.

But that is not true. 504 is not greater than 24 x 21. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=24 and b=21 to get this answer:

(24 + 1) x 21 = 525

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 25 times 21?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 24 times greater than 21, they mean 24 times as much as 21 which equals 504. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
