What is 2 times greater than 2?

2 times greater than 2 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 4 (since 2 x 2 = 4). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

4 is greater than 2 x 2.

But that is not true. 4 is not greater than 2 x 2. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=2 and b=2 to get this answer:

(2 + 1) x 2 = 6

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 3 times 2?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 2 times greater than 2, they mean 2 times as much as 2 which equals 4. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
