Let's assume the answer = 192 (since 16 x 12 = 192). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

192 is greater than 16 x 12.

But that is not true. 192 is not greater than 16 x 12. It is the same!

(16 + 1) x 12 = 204

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 17 times 12?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
