What is 13 times greater than 36?

13 times greater than 36 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 468 (since 13 x 36 = 468). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

468 is greater than 13 x 36.

But that is not true. 468 is not greater than 13 x 36. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=13 and b=36 to get this answer:

(13 + 1) x 36 = 504

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 14 times 36?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 13 times greater than 36, they mean 13 times as much as 36 which equals 468. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
