What is 13 times greater than 14?

13 times greater than 14 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 182 (since 13 x 14 = 182). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

182 is greater than 13 x 14.

But that is not true. 182 is not greater than 13 x 14. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=13 and b=14 to get this answer:

(13 + 1) x 14 = 196

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 14 times 14?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 13 times greater than 14, they mean 13 times as much as 14 which equals 182. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
