What is 12 times greater than 12?

Let's assume the answer = 144 (since 12 x 12 = 144). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

144 is greater than 12 x 12.

But that is not true. 144 is not greater than 12 x 12. It is the same!

(12 + 1) x 12 = 156

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 13 times 12?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
