What is 11 times greater than 63?

11 times greater than 63 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 693 (since 11 x 63 = 693). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

693 is greater than 11 x 63.

But that is not true. 693 is not greater than 11 x 63. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=11 and b=63 to get this answer:

(11 + 1) x 63 = 756

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 12 times 63?" instead of saying "times greater than?"

We do not think there is a correct answer, because the question can be misinterpreted.

It seems that when many people write 11 times greater than 63, they mean 11 times as much as 63 which equals 693. We recommend that you ask them to clarify what they mean.
