What is 10 times greater than 99?

10 times greater than 99 seems easy enough, but is it?

Let's assume the answer = 990 (since 10 x 99 = 990). Then shouldn't this statement be true?:

990 is greater than 10 x 99.

But that is not true. 990 is not greater than 10 x 99. It is the same!

To make it greater, we could make make a formula like (a+1)b where a=10 and b=99 to get this answer:

(10 + 1) x 99 = 1089

But if that is the case, why not simply say "What is 11 times 99?" instead of saying "times greater than?"
